2. Visiting this website

When you visit this website, the web server automatically records technical data: IP address, date and time of the request, browser type and version, and operating system. This data serves technical stability and security (legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR) and is normally deleted after 14 days. It is not combined with other data sources.

3. Contacting us

If you contact me by phone, email, WhatsApp or via the contact page, I process the data you provide (e.g. name, contact details, your request) exclusively to handle your enquiry. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) and (f) GDPR. Enquiries that do not lead to a cooperation are normally deleted after 6 months.

4. SSL/TLS encryption

This website uses SSL/TLS encryption to protect the transmission of confidential content.

5. Hosting

This website is hosted by 1blu GmbH, Riedemannweg 60, 13627 Berlin, Germany. 1blu processes data as a processor within the meaning of Art. 28 GDPR; the servers are located in Germany. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR.

6. Appointment booking and video calls (Google Calendar, Google Meet)

6a. Booking calendar embedded on this website – only with your consent

On the pages /de/kontakt and /en/book I offer online appointment booking through the appointment-schedule feature of Google Calendar (Google Ireland Ltd., Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). The calendar is loaded only when you explicitly ask for it. Until then nothing is loaded from Google and no information is stored on or read from your device.

If you click "Load Google's booking calendar" (on the German page: "Buchungskalender von Google laden"), your IP address and technical details about your device are transmitted to Google; Google can store information on your device and read it. The exact address of the page you are on is not passed on – the frame the calendar runs in withholds it; Google can still tell that the calendar is embedded on settlewell.de. The legal basis for accessing your device is your consent under section 25(1) TDDDG (German Digital Services Data Protection Act), and Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR for the processing that follows. Google is an independent controller for what it does with the data afterwards; details are set out in Google's privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy).

If you then book an appointment, I process the data you enter in order to carry out the appointment (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).

Your consent applies to the individual page view and is not stored. You can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future by hiding the calendar again using the "Hide the calendar" button (on the German page: "Kalender ausblenden"), or by leaving the page (Art. 7(3) GDPR); this does not affect the lawfulness of the transfer that took place before. Information Google has already stored in your browser can be removed through your browser settings. Alternatively you can always reach me by phone or email.

6b. Booking page via direct link

For intro calls I may also send you a direct link to a booking page run by Google (calendar.app.google / calendar.google.com; Google Ireland Ltd., Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). When you open it, you are on a Google website; what Google processes while you visit it is Google's own responsibility (policies.google.com/privacy). If you book an appointment there, you enter your first name, last name and email address. Google passes the booking to me and sends you a confirmation that includes the link to the video call. I use this data only to arrange and hold the call (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Using the booking page is voluntary: you can always arrange a time by email or phone instead.

6c. Video calls via Google Meet

If you choose a video call, it takes place via Google Meet (Google Ireland Ltd.). During the call, Google processes your name or display name, your email address, your IP address, technical details about your device and connection, and the audio and video of the call. I use Google Meet with a Google account for which there is no data processing agreement with Google; Google processes the data under its own terms and privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy), partly for its own purposes. Calls are not recorded or transcribed, and no automated notes are taken. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (steps prior to a contract, at your request) and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (my legitimate interest in holding the call in the format you have chosen). If you prefer, we can talk by phone instead. Booking data and calendar entries are normally deleted after 6 months if no cooperation follows.

6d. Transfer to the USA

Data may be transferred to the USA. On 10 July 2023 the European Commission adopted Implementing Decision (EU) 2023/1795, finding that the USA provides an adequate level of protection (EU-US Data Privacy Framework); the transfer is based on Art. 45(1) GDPR where the receiving company is certified under that framework, and otherwise on standard contractual clauses under Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR. Even so, access by US authorities cannot be ruled out entirely.

7. Forms: "Local partner", "Room handover" and talent sign-up

If you register as a local partner (/en/local-partners, /de/partner-werden), you submit your name, city, phone/WhatsApp number, optionally an email address, languages, and what you can help with. If you report a room becoming free (/en/room-handover, /de/zimmer-uebergeben), you submit your name, city, a contact channel and details about the flat and timing. I use this data exclusively to contact you about housing and arrival requests in your city.

If you sign up as an international professional (e.g. after one of the checks), your name, email address and the profile details you provide (profession, country, German level, self-assessment) are transferred to the SettleWell member portal, where your registration is only completed after you confirm it via the link in the confirmation email (double opt-in).

Legal basis for all three forms is your consent (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR). The time and exact wording of your consent are stored as the legally required proof. The data is stored exclusively on this website's server in Germany, is not passed on to third parties and is not used for advertising. You can withdraw your consent at any time, without giving reasons, by sending a message to kontakt@settlewell.de; your entry will then be deleted. Without withdrawal, I delete entries after two years without contact.
